Here are some comments and observations about our past convention held in Phoenix/Tempe, Arizona in May/June 2007.

From Ricky K., outgoing Secretary:

The BOAF annual convention that took place this year in Tempe, Phoenix, was a roaring success, due in no small part to all the hard work done (before and during) by all the PHX Nest members (especially Ken & Anita). Many thanks have been expressed already, so I just want to add mine to the growing list. Thanks & Well Done…..!!!

Congratulations to Rusty on becoming Big Bird and Thanks to Beth for accepting the role of Treasurer and “Big Bird In Training”…..Best wishes to you both and “Lang May Yer Lums Reek……<g>

From Beth C., the incoming Alt. Sec'y/Treasurer:

WHATTA CONVENTION

What a great convention…by far the best I have ever attended.  Interestingly, my first Birds convention was in Phoenix, same hotel, in 1997 and I haven’t missed one since.  So that makes it the best in the last 11 years…For those of you who missed it, here’s what you missed.

Ken and Anita outdid themselves in all areas.  There were activities for the entire family…children activities, al-anon’s, and, of course activities for pilots.  We had movies, a helicopter tour, great speakers, and little wooden birds (of a feather) everywhere.  I brought one home and it sits in the family room as a reminder of what a wonderful time I had seeing many old friends and making new ones.  The thought and planning that went into the table decorations was impressive and that same attention to detail was obvious throughout every aspect of the convention.  It was absolutely perfect.  Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you Ken and Anita and family!!!!

The IMAX movie was terrific.  They made us turn in the huge 3D glasses after the show, but those glasses made quite a difference.  The 3D was so intense that only my HP (or that of those sitting nearby) kept my breakfast where it belonged.

The helicopter factory tour was great and afterward we were allowed to shop in the Boeing employee store.

Each day started with a hike up the hill behind the hotel.  First morning 4 and a half of us made it.  The next day, Richard made it to the top, saying I was his inspiration (if I could do it, I guess anyone could).  We had movies and popcorn every night in the hospitality room.  The meetings, of course, were spiritual, with lots of gratitude and great program.

What a talented group we are.  The word perfectionism comes to mind when I think back to all the work Jack H has put into the historian job.  All the photos have been scanned into a computer and he has disks for those who are interested…WOW!  Thank you, Jack!

Rusty showed a map depicting all the nests we have, and then overlaid it showing which groups have donated to BOAF International.  Very impressive!   Work is already starting on the next international AA convention as we plan to have our own room…so keep those contributions coming in, as it will be quite an expense, but well worth it.

Scott gave us a demo of the BOAF website.  He has really outdone himself.  Even a computer illiterate (like me) can easily navigate through it!  Thank you, Scott.

What a terrific job Ricky has done over the past 2 years in keeping all this talent focused on the right things!  Thank you, thank you!

I hope to see everyone and more next year in Atlanta

From Dick B., Nainamo, B.C. Birds:

I would like to extend my thanks to the PHX group for their efforts in putting on a great convention.  It was first class in all aspects and there was obviously a lot of effort that made it that way.
The only problem as I see it, ( if that is a problem) is that you have set the bar to a new level. It just keeps getting better and better.

From Scott H., Prescott, AZ Birds:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people who took the time, made the effort, spent the money and came to enjoy the PHX 07 Convention.  The annual BOAF conventions are more than just activities, meetings and banquets.  They are ultimately about PEOPLE, all of us Birds, getting together every year to celebrate sobriety.  All the rest is icing on the cake, so I am happy to see that so many of you came to have your slice.

Hope to see even more of us in Atlanta next year.

Warmest regards,

Scott H.
