Seventh Tradition Contributions to Birds Of A Feather International

Birds of a Feather International is a worldwide network of meetings rooted in the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous, created specifically for pilots and cockpit crew members—active or inactive—in private, commercial, or military aviation. Founded to address the unique challenges faced by aviation professionals struggling with alcoholism, BOAF provides safe, anonymous spaces where addiction and recovery can be openly discussed, free from the cultural stigma that has historically deterred many from seeking help.

Aligned with AA’s Seventh Tradition—which emphasizes self-support through voluntary member contributions—BOAF operates independently, funded solely by the generosity of its members and the aviation community. This financial autonomy ensures our focus remains unwavering: supporting recovery from alcoholism without loyalty to employers, unions, treatment programs, or external institutions. Our mission is singular: to help pilots and crew members reclaim their lives and careers through sobriety.

BOAF sustains this mission by offering global AA meetings, an annual convention, a dedicated newsletter, and an online resource hub. These tools, funded by donations, empower individuals to navigate recovery while fostering a community grounded in anonymity, trust, and shared experience. By destigmatizing addiction in aviation and prioritizing mental health, BOAF honors the spirit of AA’s traditions while addressing the unique needs of those who safeguard the skies. Together, we build a safer, more supportive future—one where recovery thrives, careers are renewed, and the gift of sobriety is passed forward.
